Angela W.S. Fung

Clinical Chemist

Biography

I received a BSc with First Class Honours and PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. I completed a Clinical Chemistry fellowship at the University of Toronto. For my PhD thesis, I focused on developing and using an in-house MALDI-ToF functional assay to elucidate the molecular basis of catalytic mechanism and substrate specificities of an enzyme in the N-end rule degradation pathway, which has implications in neurodegeneration, cardiovascular development, and apoptosis. My interests in clinical applications of biochemistry and mass spectrometry have led me to pursue clinical chemistry post-doctoral fellowship training. Upon completion of my training, I joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of Providence Health Care as a Clinical Chemist. My current research interests are biomarker discovery, clinical assay development, and clinical applications of mass spectrometry.
