UBC Transfusion Medicine Area of Focused Competence Diploma Program

Dr. Karen Dallas has assumed the role of Program Director of the Transfusion Medicine (TM) Area of Focused Competence (AFC) Diploma Program in the University of British Columbia Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (Department). The TM (AFC) Diploma Program is one of the AFC Diploma Programs accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; these Diploma Programs are intended to address specific societal needs.
Dr. Dallas is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department, and is the Division Head for Hematopathology & Transfusion Medicine at Providence Health Care. Dr. Dallas has been extensively involved in medical education, and continuing professional development, and has trained and worked in Canada and the US. She has a passion for education, including teaching medical students, residents in several training disciplines, and associated medical professionals. She is also affiliated with a non-profit organization that focuses on medicine and education in rural Kenya, East Africa. Her broad experience and strong leadership skills will be invaluable in her new role as Program Director of the TM (AFC) Diploma program.
As Program Director, Dr. Dallas is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the Transfusion Medicine (AFC) Diploma program, in the Department. The effective date of her appointment is October 2016.
