Blum Award – Daryl Gouthro
The 2016 recipient of the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine (CSTM) Blum Award is Daryl Gouthro, MLT.
Daryl is the Team Lead for the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory of Providence Health Care.
Daryl was raised in Glace Bay, NS and trained at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Halifax. He worked in Drumheller, Alberta in a rural setting and then moved to Vancouver where he has held positions in Chemistry and Transfusion Medicine at various times. He has worked in sales selling both blood bank reagents and infectious disease markers.
Daryl has worked with the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office on projects relating to blood and blood products in BC. He is a past Board member of the CSTM. Until recently he served several consecutive terms as a member of the standards committee.
The Blum Award is awarded to a member who has given outstanding service to the Society over time and is named for Edna Blum, a founding member of the Canadian Association of Immunohematologists, the forerunner of CSTM. Edna was the treasurer of the Society from 1980 to 2002, as well as serving on the Board of Directors.
