I was born in Alberta, but I grew up in Burnaby, BC. After completing high school I attended Simon Fraser University and University of Alberta where I completed my undergraduate and a graduate degree. I completed my M.D. and specialty training in Pathology at the University of British Columbia. Following residency training I was hired at St. Paul's Hospital as an Anatomical Pathologist. I have an interest in teaching and mentorship and I am the recipient of multiple teaching awards from the Department of General Surgery (1995, 2000), St. Paul's Hospital Director of Medical Education (1997, 2000) and the Bobby Miller Award for Best Professional Role Model to Residents from the University of British Columbia (2001). I completed the Simon Fraser University Heath Management Program (2004) and started as the Anatomical Pathology Medical Lead in 2008 till April 2018.
